Trees Like Water

Well, they do when they're growing at the Equator and its the dry season!

Climate change is making rainfall patterns in the tropics ever more sporadic so from time to time we have to irrigate planted seedlings with that lovely life-giving fluid that we all know as 'water'. Luckily, with help from Tree-Nation we have been able to boost our climatic resilience with the installation of extra water tanks. We now have capacity to store 100,000 litres at the nursery and a further 40,000 litres at one of our nearby 'Demonstration Farms'. This is where we help the farmers learn about planting, irrigation and yield maximisation techniques. All essential skills in a warming world.

Lois brings jerry cans to the Demonstration Farm for filling up

Once they are filled, the jerry cans are loaded onto a truck, delivered to the planting site and unloaded

Our team of workers carry the water out to the seedlings (women traditionally carry on their heads and men on their shoulders)

Then finally the desperately thirsty trees can drink their fill

That should keep them happy until the rains come 🍀🍀🍀!
