Embracing Change: A Mild Start to the Year in the Eastern Carpathians

0

The Hasmas Mountains, where we are planting mixed forests on place of wind-damaged spruce forest, have witnessed an unusual beginning to the year with remarkably mild weather. Normally experiencing harsh winter conditions at this time, these mountains have undergone a shift in recent years, prompting us to reflect on the impact of a changing climate.

The meteorological data recorded at the Miercurea Ciuc station further supports these observations.

Since the turn of the millennium, a consistent anomaly of over 1 degree Celsius has been noted every single month, and the consequences are unfolding right before our eyes.

Our focus is now on planting forest stands that are not only resilient but also well-equipped to thrive in the face of climate challenges.

Planting mixed forests, composed of native tree species, will enhance resilience against changing temperature and precipitation patterns.
