Growing Diversity: Planting a Mixed Forest in the Eastern Carpathians

Winter has just passed, leaving behind a brownish landscape with just a few splashes of color, primarily from the flowering mezereum (Daphne mezereum) shrubs and our food delivery bags repurposed to transport young, bare-rooted trees onto the mountain for creating a diverse mixed-species forest. :)

 We've begun planting some of the spruce (Picea abies) and beech (Fagus sylvatica) seedlings to replace areas damaged by wind in the Eastern Carpathians (Hasmas Mountain).

The remainder, along with all the silver firs (Abies alba) and sycamore maples (Acer pseudoplatanus), will be planted during our open planting days, with the first one scheduled for April 6th.
