Spring Replacement Plantings

2

Over the past few days, we have planted sessile oaks (Quercus petraea) in areas where we previously planted in 2021 and 2023.

By replacing non-surviving seedlings, we are helping the oak groves maintain a sufficiently high tree density necessary to outcompete the vigorous herbaceous vegetation and shrubs that grow on these sunlit surfaces.

In the meanwhile, the seedlings intended for planting in April on the open planting days have been moved to a cold storage room.

Thanks for an interesting update! I’m just curious, how large is the proportion of non-surviving seedlings?

Dear Paulina, as an average, 10-15%. Very much depending on the site and the weather in the growing season. At the sites mentioned above it was much higher.
