The Next Generation of Centuries-Old Giants

We have collected a batch of acorns from the oldest oak trees we could find in our area: from the century-old oaks of the Mercheasa wood pasture (https://maps.app.goo.gl/DiHvCCyhTiQ66NBx6 ).

Among them is the one believed to be the oldest in the Carpathians, the nearly 900-year-old ‘Elder of the Carpathians.’

The seedlings grown from these acorns will primarily be planted as part of our pasture woodland restoration project, but we will also mix some of them with the seedlings raised in the nursery and planted at other locations.

Even if we set aside the most essential fact — that these trees, which have withstood centuries of storms and droughts, may possess the ability to adapt to the climatic changes to come — it’s still an exciting thought that we will be planting the descendants of these ancient giants.
