Foot- and Hoofprints in the Snow

With some snow covering the ground at our most documented planting site—the one at the base of Ciomad Mountain—the animals living around this place, or just crossing it on their way to their furry businesses, leave inevitable traces of their presence: their footprints and hoofprints (the ones touching the surface of the Earth with their hooves).

The ones we’ve identified:

Heavy-stepping red deer (Cervus elaphus)

Pointy hoofprints of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus)

The characteristic tracks of a hare (Lepus europaeus)

Footprints of a wildcat (Felis silverstris) , who barely touch the ground

And the ones who break the icy snow as they step: the bears (Ursus arctos)
