This little guy is a mudskipper—part fish, part land explorer.

Found in healthy mangrove ecosystems like those in Madagascar, mudskippers can breathe through their skin and even “walk” on land using their fins.

Their presence is a great sign that the mangroves are thriving.

Did you know?

Mangroves can survive in saltwater by filtering out up to 90% of the salt through their roots—or excreting it through their leaves. It’s one of the reasons they thrive along Madagascar’s coasts where few other trees can.

Cashews are centre stage in our nursery at the moment, as we gear up for the coming planting season. These lovely trees are actually related to cactii - they have waxy leaves that reduce transpiration and are able to store up water in their trunks. This makes them incredibly drought

I wonder if there are any mangrove projects in Mexico we can plant on. We are...

Mangrove forests are vital for coastal stability, biodiversity, and carbon storage, acting as a natural barrier against storms and erosion.

Fun fact: Mangroves can filter up to 90% of salt from seawater before absorbing it, allowing them to thrive in harsh coastal environments where

Teak from the Tribals project! Teak has a unique ability to regenerate and grow rapidly. In its early years, it focuses on developing strong roots, and once established, it shoots up vertically, reaching for sunlight. Unlike many trees, it doesn’t form a canopy but has broad leaves

Waiting for this teak sapling to grow to its full potential! Teak trees are fast-growing and can reach up to 20 feet in height. Once self-sustainable, they store enough water to thrive and extend their broad leaves to capture sunlight—an incredible design of nature at work! isnt

Great to see greenery at the project site! These saplings have experienced monsoons, hot summers, and cold winters—and they’re standing tall. On their way to becoming strong trees!

When we wait for the rains to come then sometimes the seedlings need a bit of irrigation to keep them from getting thirsty. Lois shows how one woman can carry 10 jerry cans from the planting site back to the watersource for refilling. Well done Lois!

Close up of the grafting process that enables our farmers to improve the value of their mango crop. The attached graft will grow into a branch that will ultimately yield larger, juicier fruit.

By grafting high quality fruit stems on to existing mango trees you can signficantly improve the size and juiciness of the resultant harvest.

Larger, more flavoursome mangoes fetch a premium price at the local markets - meaning more cash for school fees, home improvements and ultimately

During my field visits, I measure the Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) of trees—a crucial step in assessing forest health. This measurement helps estimate a tree’s biomass and carbon storage while also tracking growth over time.

By monitoring DBH, we gain valuable insights into
