Women saving the planet!

With another half a million tropical forest seedlings now propagating in our main community nursery - for planting out in a couple of months - we thought it would be a good time to introduce some of our nursery employees in order to recognise the brilliant work that they are doing to help fight climate change. It is hard to calculate exactly how much CO2 the trees behind Rehema Daniel (above) will absorb but the seedling she is holding in her hands (known locally as Mbambakofi) is fast growing and with every day, a growing day, they'll be absorbing the bad stuff as fast as they possibly can. Rehema is 25 and has 2 kids, aged 6 and 3. She spends most of her earnings on food and paying for school fees.

Lilian Charo (below) is single. She has 3 children (two boys and one girl - aged between 12 and 20) and after paying for school fees and for food, she spends most of her spare cash on a small goat rearing project as a way to increase her income.

Christine Safari is younger at 21 and has 3 boys under 5. She is using her wages to start a project to raise broiler chickens.

Karembo John is 29, she has 2 boys and a girl (2-12 years) and has recently separated from her husband so the wages she receives from the nursery work are particularly valuable at the moment as it is hard for her to make ends meet.

With help from Tree-Nation, these young women are literally saving the planet - Asanté Sana all round!
