SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

0

The survival of the fittest: a biological principle where the strongest organism survives through their successful efforts to adapt to changes in their environment, find food and other resources, while weaker organisms have greater difficulties surviving, resulting in a rapid loss of their species. This statement is based solely on the capabilities of an organism to be able to satisfy its needs from nature, in order to survive.

A good example of this theory and how adaptation and evolution have a great importance in the survival of a species, are the giraffes. Before, these animals had shorter necks, as they could reach the top of little smaller trees. But, as the trees can increase in heights, making the giraffes with longer necks able to survive, while the other ones didn't have the possibilities to do so. This made the longer necks giraffes stronger, while the others slowly disappeared.

Also, the constant change in our climate can make the rates of fauna survival even lower, as the capabilities to survive to heat waves, droughts, heavy rains, that are progressively getting more intense, can give the animals little chance to adapt. This is where trees come in, as they can create a shield and reduce the risks of more and more species disappearing. Planting a mixture of tree species can be the best method to increase the survival rate of local fauna:

1. It provides food to several living organisms.

2. It attract rainfall as it is important in the rain formation processes.

3. It creates organisms habitats. The trees are the homes of the great numbers of animals, birds,  and insects.

4. They reduce the heat generated by hot climates, creating a better balance in temperature.

Essentially, trees are the base of life, and contribute greatly to the natures cycles. Protecting its balance, and rejuvenating our lands is of the upmost importance, so we can keep the natural habitats and promote the never-ending circle of life.
