Forest Gardens - Mount Elgon Region

Forest Gardens - Mount Elgon Region, Uganda

Our project employs a unique agroforestry approach that benefits local farmers and the environment. Monoculture and logging have degraded the land and left farmers reliant on a single source of income. So far, over 700 farmers are using the Forest Garden approach to rebuild food systems, improve livelihoods, and restore the environment. CO2 per species is rounded to 50kg, as this project is twinned with VCS credits.

Our Forest Gardens are not just a method for diversifying crops and planting trees; they also create vital habitats for wildlife. For instance, we have observed an increasing number of birds nesting and thriving in our Forest Gardens.

Our agroforestry method brings a lot of joy to the farmers that participate in our project: alternative income opportunities, food for their families, and a well recovered land, that is able to produce nutrients, provide shade and safety for each crop.

In each of our projects, we have a training center. Here we teach local farmers the best ways to keep their crops and maintain their forests gardens. This way they can take advantage of all the benefits.

One little tree can make a huge difference. Every tree we plant with our farmers restores the land, captures CO2 and also provides nutrients for the soil to grow food for each household.
