SueM

I still miss Sue terribly, there is a huge hole in this group and I can sense that her other friends feel it too.

I just wanted to start a topic page that we can all add our feelings to.

I'm also waiting for TN to add something in honour of her memory considering the vast amount that Sue donated to them in sponsoring trees, gifting trees, zero net sponsoring etc.....

Hello everyone on this post. I only found out about the Forum via Petra’s update and subsequently saw this thread. It’s only now I can respond without it upsetting me too much.

I wish I knew what caused SueM’s death beyond ‘natural causes’. Not having found any suspicious circumstances, the medical authorities in Portugal did not require a post-mortem. If I had requested one, I was told it could take anywhere up to 3 months, thus postponing the funeral. As I only had limited time to deal with everything in Lisbon I decided not to request one, however much I wanted to know the exact cause. Ultimately I made my peace with this choice, knowing it would change nothing and not bring Mum back.

SueM did have COPD and she had taken up smoking again in the last year or so, I believe. She also had a series of bad falls in the last couple of years, the last one being in December 2023, where she broke her entire nose horrifically. The medical team and plastic surgeons did an amazing job and Mum was shockingly a real trouper about it all despite the circumstances, but she was still rather congested for a long while. I know she was also having a hard time fighting off a cold in May.

SueM was cremated (as she had wanted) on the 21st of May. Not being able to bring her ashes on the plane to Canada, I scattered her ashes in the River Tagus in Lisbon.

I too have my regrets with which I must reconcile. It also saddens me that she was alone or that she might have been in pain or scared, but here I have to defer to the great mysteries of life and have faith that she was not alone and and to send her my love in spirit.

After a very long time I returned. After opening the forum I am very sad to read about Sue instead of from her. I hoped to find her here to say hi and see what was going on. Especially after I had recently seen similar trees like the ones "from her backyard".
TN friends and especially Sue were always a lovely distraction from some troubling stuff. May she rest in peace and may the forests and good deeds grow so new good deeds are inspired and manifest.
