Unusually hot weather is covering a large part of Eastern Europe, with temperatures well exceeding the usual for this time of year. Our trees are growing approximately at the point of the white arrow in the picture above.
We have checked today the sessile oak seedlings (and their companions) on Ciomad Mountain, and they are in good shape. Now is the time when the herbaceous vegetation growing around the seedlings keeps them partially shaded, helping them to avoid at least part of the heat-induced water loss until cooler weather arrives.
Our planting project is destined to plant and promote the planting of local tree species that will form more climate-resilient forests in the coming decades, which unfortunately will be marked by a changing climate and similar weather conditions.
