Nursery and plantation 2013

This article consists of two parts: the first one regards mainly the nursery, the second the plantation.

1. Production of forest trees and fruit

This year we have sown and planted many trees. For the activities of the nursery between April and July we estimated 37000 plastic pots to obtain 35000 seedlings. In the end we managed to produce 33,931 seedlings and to plant 33306.

We have also introduced new species as:
- #Acacia_seyal
- #Azadirachta_indica (more known under the name of Neem, a tree very much distributed in the country)
- #Anacardium_occidentale (from which the cashew nuts)
- #Psidium_guajava (or guava)
(These species will soon be available in the Plant! section)

But also to a lesser extent Caîcedrat, Anona, Jatropha, Terminalia, and papayer.
As for the #Acacia_senegal, the #Moringa_oleifera, the #Bauhinia_rufescens and Zizuphus we could use seed produced directly from our plantations, while for the remaining species we have asked the local forestry services and forest services of Dosso.

Of the 2012 production remained quite a lot 'of plants not yet planted (18,560 Acacia senegal). They remained a whole year in our nursery, and it was possible because we had enough water throughout the year thanks to our pit and the solar pump.

2. Non-timber forest products

In this year we were able to produce and sell in local markets the following products:

- Moringa leaves, moringa seeds
- Leaves of baobab
- Seeds of forest species.

We also want to develop the production of fruit of the baobab, the Ziziphus (apple of the Sahel) and the sale of dead timber.

3. Maintenance of the production site

Maintenance mainly consisted in pruning of trees, shrubs and weeding cleanup of the plantation site.

In the second part of this article we will discuss of this plantation activities that have occurred mainly in August-September and will end in October.
