We're excited to introduce Restoring Biodiversity Highways, our first project in Chile to launch under Tree-Nation's new Foundation Certification: the first step in a plan to turn a series of bare, degraded plots into living ecological corridors that reconnect fragmented habitats across the landscape.
Over the past several months, our Environment Team has been laying the groundwork: reviewing land-use agreements, confirming carbon rights, mapping planting polygons, and building out a satellite-based carbon monitoring baseline for each site (you can read more about that process in our last article). That's the behind-the-scenes work that happens before a single tree goes into the ground, and it's why we're launching the project today, even though planting itself hasn't started yet.
Why planting is starting next year, not now
Planting season in this part of Chile follows the region's rainy window, typically in the middle of the year, which gives young trees the moisture they need to establish. Between finalizing paperwork and getting every site properly onboarded onto our platform, we weren't able to complete everything in time to plant during this year's window. Rather than plant outside the right conditions, we've made the call to wait.

- Expected start of planting: June 1, 2027
- Expected end of planting: August 31, 2027
What happens between now and then
The project is live, funding is open, and our sites are ready and waiting. Over the coming months, we'll keep sharing updates on our progress, from the carbon baseline work already underway to further site preparation as we get closer to planting season. When June 2027 arrives, we'll be ready to get trees in the ground and start the next chapter of this project's story.
