Thanks to the 2015 funding from our Sponsor #ARaymond, we could proceed with the extension of the drip irrigation system and the planting of a #Moringa_oleifera live fence in our new plantation site in the suburbs of Dosso city.

The extension of the drip irrigation system on the new site

A new site dedicated to agro-forestry production activities was established 2 km outside the town of Dosso in an area of shallows. A drill with high broadband of 95,3 m3 / hour as well as water pumping and infrastructure facilities are in preparation. Our sponsor ARaymond made possible the creation of a one (1) hectare drip irrigation system, finally completed in January 2016.

However, pending the completion of the water pumping full system (solar pump and solar panels), the facilities of the irrigation system will only work on a quarter of a hectare with a motor pump installed by the developer.
Drilling at this new site is super productive with almost a hundred m3/hour flow output. The device being installed will only give us a rate of less than 10 m3/hour, hence an under utilization of the productive potential. The acquisition of a large capacity pump (of at least half the output potential: 50 m3/hour) and its equivalent energy network would offer a better utilization of the planting site. We hope to be able to achieve this infrastructure project in 2016.

The tree planting

Already during the rainy season (August), some 2500 seedlings (including 1,600 of thorny trees, 800 Moringa trees and 100 papaya trees) were planted on the new site. The delay in the installation of the irrigation system which was planned to be operational immediately, caused some losses among the Moringa and Papaya plants; fortunately the thorny species were more resilient even if they have suffered threats from animals prior to the closing of the fence. Currently, direct seed planting of Moringa is underway to gain more time on their development for next rainy season.

Planning the 2016 activities

Several activities are being considered for our 2016 campaign 2016, function of the possible sponsors we may get: 1. to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the drilling system in Tree-Nation’s main site;2. to ensure the production of 8,000 plants including 5000 thorny plants and 3000 Moringa and fruit trees for the needs of the new site and many other interested farms in the region;3. to increase water production capacity at the main planting site through the acquisition of a more efficient pump, more solar panels and the installation of a reservoir of greater storage capacity;4. to increase the drainage capacity of the drilling on the new site by purchasing a large capacity pump (over 50 m3/hour) and its energy network.
