This is how our tabaquillo seedlings are progressing. From the germination of bioactivated seeds to their development in tubes, we carefully manage the entire process before taking them to their final location in the mountains where they will become forests.

Forest and water are the same story. In the Sierras Grandes, the tabaquillo (Polylepis australis) works like a living sponge: its foliage catches moisture from the clouds and its soil holds rainwater, infiltrates it and releases it slowly toward the springs.

A healthy forest regulates

We climbed the mountain to collect tabaquillo seeds and continue restoring our native forests. Every seed we gather represents a promise of more life and water for our mountains. 🌱⛰️

Every tabaquillo we sow in the Sierras Grandes, we return to find. We call this monitoring: going back to the same spot, locating the seedling, and recording whether it took, how much it grew, and the state of its health.

What you're holding is a tabaquillo seedling (Polylepis australis) planted in the field, in the heart of the Pampa de Achala, at over 2,300 meters above sea level. It's already putting down roots in the mountains.

Our first high-altitude forests are returning!
Four years after our first Polylepis plantings in the Sierras Grandes of Córdoba, Argentina, we revisited the area. We were immensely pleased to find specimens already reaching 1.80 meters in height. For a mountain region with slow-growing

Constant monitoring on the ground is a fundamental stage of our work.

Over the last few weeks, we have been carrying out detailed monitoring of the plots where we implemented the direct sowing technique, and the results we are observing are highly encouraging.

A large number

Large-scale restoration begins with a small treasure: the seed. Recently, we finished the harvest season of 800,000 native seeds in the Sierras Grandes. This stock ensures the basic input to continue scaling our mission of reforesting the most important watersheds in the region.

We achieved very positive results in our field direct seeding trials. The recorded germination rate confirms the effectiveness of this technique and provides a valuable tool for efficiently scaling ecological restoration.

We reached a milestone by planting 10,000 new native trees in the degraded areas of Pampa de Achala. This effort increases the protected forest surface and strengthens the soil's water absorption capacity, which is essential for the Córdoba mountain ecosystem.

We have successfully completed a new seed collection phase for Tabaquillo (Polylepis australis) from the forest remnants in the Sierras Grandes. This manual harvest ensures the genetic diversity required for seedling production and allows us to continue restoring the water basin.
