Danger donc ! Merci de me tenir au courant. M Geoffroy

Merci. Kassimou Issotina

It had been love at a glance.

-August 2010- It was the last week of August when I met the tree(s). It had been love at a glance. It was a cool day, it had been raining during all the night and it was my first visit to the Tree Nation plantation. After a long trip, I was finally there, in the countryside near Dosso, "en brousse" as in Niger they say.The plantation was bigger than I expected and very different from the ones we have in Italy. But it was fantastic: the small plants "were greening" everywhere thanks to the water that the wet season was giving them. And they were growing up strong, so differently from the lazy trees we're used to seeing in our city parks. I remember I thought that the difference between European and African vegetation is exactly the same difference there is between people. They fight against almost everything in the surroundings but they're always brighter.I wasn’t alone: my friends Luca and Raymond were traveling with me, and Bouki - our guardian angel - was showing and explaining us the planting process. We met Bouki in Niamey, two days before moving to Dosso and he stayed with us all the time with our other "baby sitter", our friend Djadje. The Toubabs would have been lost without those two men!We spent a week in the plantation and I still cannot focus the best moment I lived. Maybe it was when I planted my first tree. Bouki and Djadje explained me how to do it, starting from digging the clods and then cutting the black plastic bag with a razor blade and then laying the small green shrub in that thick ground. I felt happy like a baby succeeding in cycling. The time we spent there, the people we met, the beautiful nature we saw, everything has been perfect. And even though I don't know when, I'm sure I'll be back someday.

A great experience!

For those still having doubts about the project, I have been there myself in August and it is quite impressive. Hard conditions but the trees do actually grow. If sceptical do not hesitate to ask me for more pictures.

I hope I can go back

I hope I can go back to Niger next year to see the people, who are so nice, to see the trees, and to plant some new ones. I recommend this experience to everybody. You feel useful, you have fun, you see some marvellous landscape, and meet great people and great culture. A plus

This is where my tree will grow.

This is where my tree will grow. Now I can imagine it growing strong and healthy. I am glad to be even a very small part of this very big enterprise.
