Our project aims to preserve biodiversity in the Eastern Arc Mountains rainforest. To achieve this, we focus on reversing deforestation around the Forest Nature Reserve, promoting environmental conservation education, and alleviating extreme poverty through agroforestry initiatives.
The approach Friends of Usambara is using to combat climate change through its three years of monitoring the trees they have planted this assurer 100% of trees survival rate this led me to believe in their work because we believe after three years any tree has a possibility of 99% of growing.
Also educating farmers about smart agriculture helped to reduce encroachment to communities adjacent to the forest reserve by mixing their crops with trees suitable for agroforestry which contributes to soil fertility and increase productivity. One the trees given are fruit trees which will boost their economies and other tree species for domestic uses

It is great work these people are doing for the Usambara community. This project is at the heart of the community and is a big local employer. In 3 visits to the West Usambara I have been impressed with FOU, its principles and ambition. In two small scale planting projects I was involved in , the resources were plentiful and the sites appropriate. The involvement of local children was particularly welcomed.. FOU staff have always been enthusiastic, open and welcoming. I have asked numerous questions about their strategy and procedures and always received a prompt courteous answer.

For quite long FOU has shown its willing to change usambara mountains into green through its efforts on sensitizing planting trees. I worked with FOU for two years since 2012 and we visited various primary schools arround the mountaons training the kids on how they can plant trees and taking care of them from young age to maturity, for sure the efforts are so great and sustainable. Lets join hands together so that these efforts are not ending.

For several decades West Usambara have been experiencing a massive loss of biodiversity, water loss, increased temperature, soil loss loss and increased runoff. For four decades now after SECAP programme 4H million trees becomes the second largest programme in the Usambara that offers a solution to the above mentioned environmental challenges. There is no way we can avoid to support this very important initiative from Yassin Madiwa and The Friends of Usambara Team.

I work with FoU in different planting activities. All I am impressed with is their decision to include enough indigenous tree species including Markhamea lutea, Ficus sir, Ficus thorningii and Ocotea Usambarensis which are greatly doing going with this climate and soil.
Please keep it up!

Congratulations! Friends Of Usambara Society for the tree planting project in usambara mountains. I respect that from the planning up to this most crucial stage of implementation. The project is real important as we intend to make this world a better place for present and future generations. I have been interested in the project and ready to give material and field attending support as required. TOGETHER WE CAN.
Fachwissen:
You tried to keep the country green.
Just keep on doing for this campaign of planting trees at usambara. African Exposure supports your efforts and it is back on you.
Much appreciate to you all.
The African Rainforest Conservancy (ARC) has collaborated with the FOU over the past year. All our interactions have been professional, punctual, and efficient. Yassin Madiwa is clearly incredibly passionate about saving the forests that surround the Usambara Mountains. His commitment to this project and continuous hard work makes anything possible. We are proud to have donated some money and hope that we many continue to do so in the future. The daily work on the ground to save our environment only gets down by the hard work of amazing organizations like the FOU. Keep it up!
The 4-H Million Trees Project has been working closely with Yassin Madiwa and his team at FOU for the past 3 years to raise funds to plant trees in the West Usambara Mountains. The goal is to plant 1.5 million trees/year, and funding is required to accomplish this goal. Please contact FOU through their website to discuss how you can be part of this vision to maintain biodiversity in the mountains, maintain and expand the Forest Reserve, preserve the water catchment basin, stabilize the soil, improve youth nutrition, and raise livelihoods for subsistence farmers planting trees in agroforestry. This is a 5-star effort to help the people in the Usambaras.
I visited friends of Usambara two months ago and I had chance to visit and see their project and learn more about the kind of work doing at the mountains. I really enjoyed see the group of young people who motivated to work in environment and doing all it take to fight this demond. Let keep on supporting this kind of project for the better world
FoUS is an excellent organization! Guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend for group tours. Their mission is meaningful and they're doing great work in their community.
I was in the Usambara Mountains in September 2016 and met Yassin, the project coordinator. He and everyone in his organization are so passionate about the rainforest that you get set alight by their knowledge about and love for the forest and all the nature. We need to preserve the rainforest, I can totally recommend Yassin and Friends of Usambara Mountains!
Well done taking into every aspect, every benefit posible reforestation including involving school children. A project designed for success!
My words are not enough to express my appreciation to the great work done by The Friends of Usambara Society (FoU).
I would like to affirm the greatness and outcome of this persistent tree planting campaign along Usambara mountains.
Not only because of large part of mountain you have conserved but you have equipped the community of Usambara with seedlings and tree species planting technology of today, especially to young generation who will ensure sustainable environmental conservation.
Good number of mountains’ people is financially improving because you introduced them with fruit trees which gives both ecological significance and seasonal harvest of fruits.
I wish you all the best
It is truly the friends as it's name. Friends of Usambara Society is one of the devoted organization that I happened to know and shared sometimes in carrying out some activities. So many people don't get it to why is the mountains of Usambara looks so virgin and healthy in nature, but the answer to all this is FRIENDS OF USAMBARA SOCIETY. Having this organization in the country is a true blessing since it does what it is like to be a friend within the community...FoU conducts various and so many projects in the country that helps in bringing down the rate of global warming . Alot of million tree species have been planted and are still seeking to plant more in a country as a way towards shaping the climate in the community.
Alot Is to be said on the beautiful of works and people of Friends of Usambara Society....but all we need is actions and to make people been more speechless on each and everything across Usambara mountain that truly will proove to them that been a Friend doesn't not need more words but alot of ACTIONS in it.
I recommend people to join hands in supporting the wonderful projects and works been done by FRIENDS OF USAMBARA SOCIETY...in making the world look a better place ? ? let us all save the world by planting million trees in it.
I got a chance to do my practical training with the Friends of Usambara society and I can confidently say that their project on biodiversity conservation in the Usambara mountains is simply remarkable .
Through my time with the organization I met FoU 's team of environmental ambassadors and it comprises of people who are driven with the passion for their work, hardworking and goal achievers.
The progress done by this organization is visible and you can really notice the accuracy of their work.
I got motivated to become an environmental ambassador myself, after seeing through the work done by FoU 's team that there a people who really are as advocates for our environment .I would wish for this Organization to get a chance to expand to other areas of our country that are isolated because by looking at their work on the Usambara biodiversity conservation project they are the best Team for the job.
All the best to the Friends of Usambara society .
Thankyou for all that you do .
You are the best .
It must be amazing to bring (green) life in a lovely place as Tanzania must be. Trees are life even when the landscape is carved by the mountains. Plus, FOU is teaching how to keep alive the green treasure by teaching to the next generations how to take care of them. Nice indeed!
Well done, if only there were more projects like that... Keep up the good work you're doing
Friends of usambara society is on of the few non organization whom happen to do a very excellent work i have seen. they have plant a millions of trees in the Usambara mountain and yet they still have millions of seedling in their tree nurseries.
i would like to encourage people to visit and see the wonderful work they are doing to the mounting.
The great effort friends of Usambara is doing have just bring much environmental patriotism concerning efforts in combating climate change in poor rural areas of Africa (LUSHOTO DISTRICT), my recommendations are that similar organizations should learn from Friends of Usambara zeal in caring for the environment and this is because for over decades the Usambara mountains native forests have been exploited with less rehabilitation initiatives being taken into considerations.
Congratulations to Friends of Usambara Project.
Worthwhile activity to reforest and conserve our countrysides worth adapting to my home country, the Philippines.
As a full time gardener here in UK, and on my spare time, I do volunteer work as front line member of Surrey Hills Conservation Volunteers together with its partner, Surrey Wildlife Trust.
People need Trees, the World need Trees, let us plant more Trees.
Good luck and more power to your future projects.
Nice project, FoU are doing great job to restore degraded nature of Usambara mountains. Am from the mountains I really appreciate their effort. Keep it up
Since 2012,I have been working with friends of usambara society in revamping their website, I went there for a project but i have stayed for their community and the good work they do in developing the forest, they have done a very good job for the usambara community and they are still doing the good work.
I was a Destinationa marketer for the FOU ,we worked together on this ongoing program that was particulary great because the community cheered to us and we had a lot of campaigns that I can support even at this moment.
I humbly comfirm that the FOU are supposed to be suppoted to push the ongoing movement!!
I truly appreciate what you guys are doing, please keep it up. I have volunteering in your similar projects in previous months and it was really awesome distributing the seedlings in the villages of Mlalo, Mlola and Mambo. I would really request to join you in this new turn.
Ahsante sana!
Wel ldone comrades, keep it up
Fantastic! you Friends of Usambara Society are really doing wonderfull on conserving the environment in West Usambara Mountains. I am very interested in this way you are educating the Nation on planting more trees to avoid Global Climate Change. This is very important for the new generation. Keep it up.
