Our project aims to conserve vulnerable tropical forests by working with subsistence farmers in Kenya to promote sustainable agriculture. Research shows that protecting these forests is essential to preventing irreversible climate breakdown. Since 2007, we’ve helped farmers grow new food and timber crops that enhance biodiversity and reduce pressure on the threatened forests, ensuring long-term sustainability.

The Little Rains have finally arrived in Bore so the planting can begin. Here workers collaborate to put in mango seedings on a large community planting site. After as little as 2-3 years these trees will start producing a nutritious and valuable crop and then every year the size

Birds eye view of a newly planted cashew seedling. We dont often see trees from above, like birds do. They are invariably circular when you do. Check them out next time you're in the air ;)

Check out this new film that highlights the way Tree-Nation is supporting the women of Boré to plant hundreds of thousands of climate-cooling tropical trees. Its quite surprising really, that these poorest women, who really have contributed nothing to the problem, are doing the hard

Cashews are centre stage in our nursery at the moment, as we gear up for the coming planting season. These lovely trees are actually related to cactii - they have waxy leaves that reduce transpiration and are able to store up water in their trunks. This makes them incredibly drought

Neem trees grow surprisingly fast. These ones are only around 9 years old and already are close to producing a closed canopy. Due to its antiseptic properties, Neem timber is resistant to attack from termites and so is highly prized as a building material in this part of Kenya. Each

Earlier this week in the Borè nursery. Really excited to see the new batch of seedlings peeping up out of the soil. These beauties feed on sunlight like you feed on toast in the morning and every single one will spend years capturing photons and using their embodied stellar energy

The Management Committee of the Boré Green Umbrella Self Help Group. These are the great people who coordinate all our planting work in Boré. One of their main jobs is to make sure that the trees and all other project benefits are shared out fairly amongst all members of the community.

Gearing up for the coming planting season in the community nursery. Thanks to generous recent support through Tree-Nation, we are expanding our infrastructure to enable an annual propagation capacity to 1.25 million seedlings . Its hard to do the maths but anyway you look at it,

Casuarina in Boré. We love this tree because its drought resistant, its fast growing, it produces good pole wood after only 5 years and each pole can sell for up to $10 so the farmers only need to harvest around 15 to pay for one years secondary education for one of the daughters.

Rains come to Bore! Better late than never....but the 'Little Rains' have finally arrived and turned everything green. Climate change may feel like a rather abstract concept for most of us in the Northern Hemisphere but it is an everyday reality for all of sub-Saharan Africa these
