This 2026 begins with a key stage for our project. We are currently caring for and monitoring the growth of the young trees that will be planted throughout the year in Tepelmeme. These are species native to the tropical dry forest, selected for their strong adaptation to the territory

Restoration Means Growing the Understory Too

As part of our restoration efforts in Tepelmeme, we’re not only planting trees. We’re also introducing shrub species to create the understory, an essential layer of any healthy forest ecosystem.

With April, the peak of the dry season in Tepelmeme comes to an end. To help our young trees survive, we carry out riegos de auxilio — emergency watering sessions led by members of the community.

The semi-arid climate of the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve is defined by low rainfall, extreme temperatures, and high evapotranspiration, limiting water availability

All the trees are ready and the ground has been prepared for planting. All that is left now is to wait for the rain. Rain is precious here in Tepelmeme. We will supplement what little we get by watering the trees we plant.

You can see how the desert has taken over a lot of the space where we are going to plant. Here we are reviewing the area to be planted and are assessing the soil's ability to support the new trees that will be planted in June.

Last week we did a review and evaluation of our planting site. Everything looks good for planting next June. We will be planting then because it is the start of our rainy season and this ensures that our trees will survive.
