End of Summer

We are already only days away from the end of summer and only weeks away from the end of the first vegetation period of the tree seedlings planted this spring.

The first mushrooms have started to pop up on our planting spaces and around them. Leaves are slowly losing their shine and turning into a more matte, shineless color.

The planting sites are continuously visited by carnivores, herbivores, and those in between :) 

We have more cameras mounted in our oak planting site (due to its relative proximity).

Some of the more charismatic specimens photographed by our camera traps in the last weeks around the oak seedlings:

• Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus). Fortunately, due to the presence of large carnivores, they don’t feel secure enough to settle down and start eating the leaves of the planted seedlings.

A landing tawny owl (Strix aluco).

One of our "old friends": a brown bear (Ursus arctos).

And a really remarkable visitor: a Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx)!

Although our Hasmas Mountain planting site requires a bit of hiking to reach and we did not collect as many photos, being a more remote location, it is surely visited by more elusive species. The only camera trap we have mounted there offers a glimpse into the secret life of the mountain's inhabitants: we have a picture of a wildcat (Felis sylvestris)!
