Our Training Site in Senegal

0

Our training site is a model Forest Garden that demonstrates the Forest Garden Approach in action. It provides staff, farmers, and partner organizations with an opportunity to see different agroforestry techniques and how different species and crops can be grown in the Forest Garden system.

Training Site Details

  • Site with about 3 acres of land.
  • Site has a sheltered outdoor classroom space.
  • Site includes all the elements of a Forest Garden, including the green wall/live fence, alley cropping or contours, permagarden, and a fruit tree portfolio. Site also has livestock integration and other relevant technology demonstrations for the average smallholder farmer.
  • The training site is actively producing food and resources which are sold to support the operating costs.
  • The training site also operates a tree nursery which is then used in TREES programs and local communities.
  • The sites was established with the help of a partner organization that has provided the land for use.

Various types of training are offered at the site, from field days and drop in tours to 1-5 day workshops, on a sliding scale cost. We are currently still hosting minimal public training events due to COVID-19, but more will be available in 2022.
