Agroforesterie et Boisement

Agroforesterie et Boisement, Frankreich

68.6  VQS-Score

Our project aims to transform former agricultural fields into sustainable agroforestry systems. By combining agriculture with forestry, we reforest unused land and shift away from unsustainable farming practices. This approach reduces the use of pesticides and fertilizers, prevents erosion, enhances biodiversity, offsets CO2 emissions, and improves the health and livelihoods of local farmers.

Reforestation
The project is planting trees to re-establish forest cover in an area of forest that has been deforested.
Agroforstwirtschaft
Agroforestry
The project is planting trees on agricultural land for multiple purposes, including the agricultural use of trees, combined with agricultural crops and/or livestock.

Baumschulen-Setzling
Nursery Seeding
Seedlings transition from the nursery to their permanent site. Seedlings spend 3-6 months in nurseries before being transplanted, usually during the rainy season. The seedling bags are usually plastic. In this case, the seedlings are removed from the bag to be transplanted into the soil.

Fauna Conservation
Animal species protection is a part of the plantation management, such as creation of safe habitats.
Wiederherstellung des Bodens
Land restoration
The project repairs degraded land back into a healthy and productive land.

The project is managed without the use of agrochemicals or herbicides.

Tree-Nation Methodology

Projektbeschreibung

This project consists of two main activities:

1) Agroforestry: Planting trees within fields used for agriculture crops. Sufficiently spaced away so tractors can still be used.

2) Reforestation: Planting trees and creating new forests on former arable land that is not cultivated anymore for raising crops.

Today’s modern agriculture practices are not sustainable. Based on the extensive use of chemicals, biodiversity is threatened. Among them pollinators (bees) and other insects that would otherwise benefit the crops are dying or fleeing.

Agriculture consist of crop fields emptied of any trees. Industrialization and the appearance of large tractors only made it worse. Yet trees play an essential role for an efficient ecosystem, restoring the soil, regaining nutrients, cleaning water and hosting wildlife.

But also, trees can act as natural pesticides and fertilizer so it can help remove farmers dependence on those chemicals and bring radical benefits to the ecosystem.

Known since the 70’s, agroforestry and reforestation of former farmland hasn’t spread due to the lack of awareness, expertise and financial assistance. This is why Tree-Nation is well positioned to help.

The lesser dependence on costly chemicals and the more diverse farm outputs (including production of fruits, nuts, etc.) will improve farmers’ income. More productive, less costly and more resilient, this project benefits farmers as well as the environment!
