Boreal Forest Habitat Restauration

Boreal Forest Habitat Restauration, Kanada

We are restoring Manitoba's Boreal Forests by planting native trees in collaboration with local Indigenous communities. These forests, damaged by pest infestations and wildfires, need proper management to recover and withstand future threats. By planting native species and ensuring forest maintenance, we can guarantee their long-term resilience and restoration.

Tree-Nation Methodology

Projektbeschreibung

We plant Canadian trees in Canadian soil for ecosystem restoration and carbon sequestration.

Being founded by treeplanters, and managed by treeplanters, we use our experience and networks to develop reforestation projects and mobilize resources to plant trees that would not otherwise be planted.

By the end of 2023 we will already have planted more than 1 million trees. Our target for the end of 2025 are 6 million trees.

The project reforests boreal forest lands ravaged by wildfire and pest infestation with native tree species at planting sites located near Devils Lake, located approximately 325 km north of Winnipeg (Province of Manitoba).

The project is a multi-year effort. If the sites are not restored with assistance, the area will come back as a savannah (brush and grasses) with very little lateral migration from adjacent stands.

The trees are planted at a density of 2,000 seedlings per hectare.

The seedlings are provided by nurseries from seeds native to the area and approved by the Province of Manitoba.

The sites are on public land outside of Forest Management Areas with no future harvesting plans. The trees are managed and maintained by the Province of Manitoba. The reforested lands will aid in climate change mitigation and help secure boreal forest habitat.

We partner with vulnerable rural and first nations communities that are most affected by deforestation and climate change. We do this for the health of the forests, to educate and employ surrounding communities and for our our collective future. Our goal is to involve as many communities as possible in their own land conservation by providing them with job opportunities to improve their livelihood and with tangible tools to protect proactively their natural ecosystem.

Our trees are planted to the highest quality, and all of our projects are verified and reported on by a third party at the end of each year.
