Three years ago, a woman from the Usambara Mountains received avocado seedlings from Friends of Usambara Society as part of our community tree-planting and livelihood programme.

Today, she is harvesting the fruits of those trees

OUR RESTORATION APPROACH
Our goal is to have forests restored in a way that supports connections and relationships with nature, rebalances power dynamics and respects the knowledge and wisdom of the communities living in these places.

The core of the work we do together with our partners is to teach methods for sustainable agricultural land management, such as agroforestry. Agroforestry is a method where trees are planted together with other crops to produce richer and more varied harvests.

Women and young people are the agents of change and are working to foster community resilience in this reforestation project. Nearly a thousand vulnerable women and young people from rural areas are taking action to create a more sustainable environment. In 2024, they will plant
