Bosques de Agua

Bosques de Agua, Argentina

Our project is focused on restoring Córdoba's high-altitude forests, which are essential to the region's water supply. With only 3% of these forests remaining, they continue to serve as natural reservoirs, providing water to 90% of the population. By replanting native Tabaquillo trees (Polylepis australis), we aim to bring back forests to the mountains again while protecting biodiversity, and secure water resources for future generations.

Elementos clave
Actividades del proyecto
Reforestación
Reforestation
The project is planting trees to re-establish forest cover in an area of forest that has been deforested.
Conservación
Conservation
The project works to achieve forest health and biodiversity for the benefit and sustainability of current and future generations.
Gestión de recursos hídricos
Water Resources Management
Water supplies are a part of the project sustainable management, such as improving water quality and quantity and contributing to the reduction of water-related risks such as floods.
Métodos de plantación
Trasplante de plántulas
Nursery Seeding
Seedlings transition from the nursery to their permanent site. Seedlings spend 3-6 months in nurseries before being transplanted, usually during the rainy season. The seedling bags are usually plastic. In this case, the seedlings are removed from the bag to be transplanted into the soil.
Beneficios medioambientales
Captura de CO2
CO2 Capture
The project holds ideal characteristics for carbon sequestration (CO2 offsets). This include a tropical climate zone, fast growing wood species, certain type of forest and project management.
Restauración del terreno
Land restoration
The project repairs degraded land back into a healthy and productive land.
Beneficios sociales
Economía social
Social economy
The project places social welfare above profit; the aim is to enhance the community's quality of life, economically, socially, culturally and environmentally.
Inclusión social
Social inclusion
The project promotes initiatives for marginalized group’s social inclusion through education and training.

Descripción del proyecto

Bosques de Agua is dedicated to the reforestation of high-altitude Native Forests in the Sierra Grandes region in order to restore the Pampa de Achala watershed and its biodiversity.

One of the native trees that grow at these heights is the Tabaquillo (Polylepis Australis). Its forests form among the clouds and provide highly valuable environmental and socioeconomic services, such as the protection of water sources, erosion control, and regulation of the microclimate and habitat for numerous species.

So far, we have already bought and protected 210 hectares, in the heart of the Provincial Water Reserve of Pampa de Achala, in it we have 140 hectares, where we have to begin restoration and reforestation work. To achieve that goal we are already producing 300,000 Polylepis trees, which we will plant this year, 2023.
Our measurements estimate that they are born in our reserve, an approx. of 2 million liters of pure and drinkable fresh water per day. We already have advanced negotiations for the purchase of land for conservation for at least 4,500 hectares.
