Interview with pioneer farmer Mr. Ara Banyaanga

The interview with Mr. Ara Banyaanga, one of the pioneer Farmers belonging to Kanyinya Small Group, reveals how the project started in Uganda, challenges of the time, and where the project is now:

"It was in July 2003 and Clean Air Action Corporation organized a conference in Morogoro, Tanzania. He reveals that the seminar had Tanzanian and Indian participants who were to offer training and knowledge to Ugandan farmers. Following the seminar,  the project in Uganda started to grow.

This project values honesty, accuracy, transparency, mutual accountability, service to one another, and small budget for big results are the pillars of the program. The major challenges of the time were that people never looked at tree planting as a profitable venture. Telling people to keep trees for many years was seen as impossible and the carbon business was not easy to understand by the farmers.

However, this trend has changed since Farmers are getting Profit Share as income.  Farmers have also embraced other activities like Conservation Farming, construction of energy-saving stoves, and the increase in fruit trees which has changed people's livelihood.

The organization is continuing to grow bigger and better. With the current leadership in Uganda, I'm optimistic that the project is likely to cover up entire Uganda."
