Bosques Yungas

We are measuring our trees to understand how the forest is growing. This ongoing monitoring allows us to track changes over time, evaluate restoration progress, and make informed decisions for the future of the forest.

Forest restoration is a team effort. Here, the planting team is organizing the bags filled with enriched soil, ready for the next step: seed sowing. Soon, the bags on the right will look like the ones on the left, full of seedlings growing and getting ready to return to the forest

The planting season is moving forward strong.
With the tractor full of young trees, we headed to a new planting area to keep restoring the forest.

Let’s keep building native forests 🌱

Thanks to the recent rains, this "lapacho" (Handroanthus impetiginosus) keeps growing strong. The new shoots show that the tree is healthy and developing well.
Today it’s about 70 cm tall, but over time it can grow to more than 20 meters, becoming a key tree in the forest.

This is the leaf of a chilto (Solanum betaceum). Its size is no coincidence: as an understory species, it grows beneath taller trees and needs a wide “screen” to catch the little light that makes it through the canopy and keep photosynthesis running at full speed.

Winter has started and we are able to enter each of our planting sites and monitor the trees we've planted along the years.
This is a very important moment for us, we take note of the % of growth between this winter and the last, in height and in diameter, between other things.

Restoration implies many activities.
Yesterday, the team spent the afternoon treating seeds harvested from a maternal tree of "Pacará" (Entrolobium contorticiliquum). This species requires a special treatment to ensure its proper germination.

The dry season is ending, which means we can start with this years plantation!

Whenever someone visits our project for the first time, we invite them to plant a tree of a native species of their choice. It is a tradition we love doing here, making sure they leave their mark here in the forest. The next time they visit, their tree will be waiting for them.
