What Would You Ask a Reforestation Project Leader?

Hello Tree-Nation community,

Oriana here from the Environment Department at Tree-Nation.

As we gear up for Earth Day—actually, Earth Month for us—we're putting together a series of pre-recorded webinars featuring some of the amazing project leaders behind our reforestation efforts.

And we'd love your input!
We’re inviting you to share any questions you might have—about their day-to-day work, the challenges they face, how they engage with local communities, or anything else you’ve always wanted to know about how our projects come to life.

Feel free to drop your questions in this forum topic. We’ll do our best to pass them along and have them answered during the interviews.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Very exciting! I look forward to seeing the webinars.
I would love to hear projects leaders feedback on the below:
- How do you decide which tree species to plant in a given area?
- What are the biggest challenges you face in reforestation efforts?
- What are some of the most inspiring community-driven initiatives you’ve seen?
- What inspired you to work in reforestation?
- What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

This is fantastic!
I liked the questions Elodie suggested; and I’d like to add a few more questions as well:
- What do you consider the most rewarding aspect of your reforestation project? Is it seeing the trees grow, the positive impact on the local community, or something else entirely?
- How do you engage local communities in the reforestation process, and what role do they play in the long-term success of the project?
- Can you share a memorable moment or success story from your reforestation efforts that really stands out to you?
- What strategies do you use to ensure the sustainability and maintenance of the planted areas over the years?

Good initiative. I assume the projects will be located in different countries, so it could be interesting to see what strategies could be replicated elsewhere or not, depending on local regulations. Maybe you could provide a global analysis on this specific topic ?
Here are some technical questions i would like to hear about :

- How did you secure the land ownership & dedication ? In France there is the ORE (as Real Environmental Obligation) status (a land owner could contract with an association and a collective administration, setting obligations for the usages that could be (or not) be made on the land, control process (for exemple you can write down chemicals prohibition, or any management rule that's not against other laws, for a period up to 99 years).
Do you know or did you use some specific land status or contract ? Is it collectively owned (by a local association), private or trust property ?

- We all know that plants in a clear-cutted areas are struggling to settle. What techniques are you using in this kind of environment ? Digging along Keylines, multi-layered hedges, high-density plantation, soil covering, wind & wild animals protection ...

- What alternatives to plastics are you using ? For nurseries, plant protection, soil covering ...

- How do you deal with technology ? Low-tech, hi--tech or no-tech approach ?
What tools or software solutions are you using ? For projects implantation, community bounding, species selection, plantings following, production evaluation & sheduling, reporting ...
