Our project plants new rainforest on public and protected private land. Working with stakeholders, we plant and restore weed-filled areas to create authentic rainforest based on government regional mapping. Trees are grown locally from locally sourced seed, with the aim of restoring ecological function and increasing habitat and food resource for our wildlife, such as Southern cassowaries, Bennett's tree-kangaroos and Spectacled flying-foxes.

One of the species that will benefit from our planting is the Papuan Frogmouth (Podargus papuensis) found in forested areas throughout tropical Northern Australia and New Guinea. We photographed this one recently.

Preparing land for two school plantings at the Bells Road, Newell project, and a huge thank you to the landowners for the initial slashing. This will be another 300 trees going in, and first planting this year after a very long wet season.

One of the species we regularly plant on all our sites is the Drupe Fig (Ficus drupacea). A large spreading tree with bright orange fruit which turns nearly black when ripe, and eaten by Cassowaries, Rainforest Doves and Tube-nosed bats.

Before and now. Back on 29 March 2022, with a request from our local council, with council staff and volunteers, we planted 525 trees near the foreshore at Wonga Beach to replace weeds with coastal species. They have grown a bit (understatement) with some reaching 10-15 metres tall

A tree that we commonly plant in all of our revegetation sites is the Red-leaf fig (Ficus congesta). With very early and ongoing fruiting, these trees are a valuable food resource for many of our native birds and Tube-nosed Bats. The fruits change to this yellow colour as they ripen
