Our project restores key areas like old service roads and weedy reserves to increase habitat for wildlife such as Southern Cassowaries and Bennetts Tree-kangaroos. We select sites based on access, community input, and their potential for creating wildlife corridors. Our goal is to plant 500,000 indigenous trees by 2030, with nearly 20,000 already planted since 2018 to help regenerate the Daintree Rainforest.

A recent community planting on the Bells Road project, with volunteers planting another 1,000 trees. We will continue planting in the rainforests of the wet tropics of far north Queensland with Daintree Life & Tree-nation.

As we progress with the planting of 6200 trees in stage 1 (zone A) of the Bells Road planting project, we have just liaised with the landowners to map out the next stage, which will be stage 2 (zone B). As we near completion of stage 1, the landowners will start land preparation

When clearing weedy land to plant forest, you must always be careful not to assume that all groundcover are weeds. Here is a good example. When looking at the Bells Road planting project, this herbaceous plant is everywhere in the wettest areas. It is a native called Wooly Frogmouth

For a Monday splash of colour, here is a Powderpuff lillypilly (Syzygium wilsonii) taken by Connie in our rainforest garden at the weekend. These plants, which grow as shrubs to small trees, are endemic from Ingham to Cooktown in tropical north Queensland and make great additions

Yesterday, we held our first community planting on the new Bells Road project. 1000 trees were planted in 1 hour 42 minutes with 17 volunteers. Huge thanks to all of you that gave up your Sunday morning to make a positive difference. A big shout-out and thanks to Tree-Nation supporters
