A milestone reached: wrapping up our Madagascar reforestation project

7

We’re proud to announce the completion of one of Tree-Nation’s most ambitious projects to date: our reforestation initiative in Madagascar.

Since its launch, this project has helped plant over 23.7 million trees in collaboration with Eden Reforestation Projects, supporting ecosystem restoration and local communities across multiple planting sites.

With Eden’s on-the-ground operations now concluded and the sites having transitioned into a maintenance phase managed by local authorities, we are officially closing this project on the Tree-Nation platform. This is not a farewell, but a celebration of what’s been accomplished.

Please note that trees can still be sponsored until the remaining stock runs out, after which the project will be fully completed and no longer available for future planting.

For corporate partners who have a strong connection to this project, we’ve set aside a limited reserve of additional stock off-platform. If you’d like to continue supporting this initiative, please reach out to your account manager. And if you’re ready to explore new projects, we’ll gladly help you find the next best fit for your goals. Any unused stock will eventually be redirected to our global Planting Guarantee after a grace period.

To honor the scale and impact of this project, we are preparing a full retrospective article detailing outcomes, key learnings, and stories from the field. This final report will be published after our last round of field audits, scheduled to conclude by the end of this year.

We sincerely thank Eden Reforestation Projects, our dedicated supporters, and the local communities who made this journey possible. The trees planted will continue to grow and thrive, leaving a lasting legacy.

While this specific chapter in Madagascar is closing, the country remains an important part of our long-term vision. We’re exploring new projects in Madagascar, and look forward to continuing our mission there in the future.

Stay tuned — more to come soon.

Incredible to see this milestone reached! It's been a privilege to accompany so many of our sponsors on this journey in Madagascar, from the early stages of planting to the impact we’re now seeing on both the land and local communities. A huge thank you to our community and everyone involved in making this project a reality. Looking forward to continuing this momentum across all our reforestation projects worldwide. Together, we’re making a truly global impact! 🌍🌱

I am very happy and proud to say that the Eden Reforestation Project in Madagascar had been our top project. My community & I planted a total of 680 trees, which is obviously modest, but still a little contribution to the overal restoration of the Madagascar mangroves. It fill me with joy to imagine those 680 little trees growing and ovffering shelter to the wildlife.
Thanks to everyone who participated to regrow the mangroves.

Congratulations! Wow, nearly 24 Million trees in Madagascar - what an achievement. As a follow-on project, how about going a bit further south in Madagascar and foresting up the Baobabs? Most of them are damaged and very few new ones are growing.

I was in Madagascar for several weeks and it is so sad to see that lemurs have lost a big part of their habitat due to deforestation. There is a significant decrease in their population as they can´t find food, shelter and mates. Many lemurs are listed as threatened, some even as critically endangered and one day they will become extinct. I wish their would be more focus on planting trees everywhere across the country where lemurs live and struggle to survive. Lemurs are so vulnerable and exposed to people hunting them and trade in bush meat is on the increase.
