Reforest the Amazon Basin

Reforest the Amazon Basin, Brasil

Our project aims to reforest areas of the Amazon rainforest impacted by illegal deforestation. The loss of vegetation has caused severe environmental imbalances, and we are working to restore these regions. This effort is essential in combating climate change, biodiversity loss, and other environmental damage.

Actividades del proyecto
Reforestación
Reforestation
The project is planting trees to re-establish forest cover in an area of forest that has been deforested.
Conservación
Conservation
The project works to achieve forest health and biodiversity for the benefit and sustainability of current and future generations.
Agroforestería
Agroforestry
The project is planting trees on agricultural land for multiple purposes, including the agricultural use of trees, combined with agricultural crops and/or livestock.
Beneficios medioambientales
Captura de CO2
CO2 Capture
The project holds ideal characteristics for carbon sequestration (CO2 offsets). This include a tropical climate zone, fast growing wood species, certain type of forest and project management.
Conservación de la fauna
Fauna Conservation
Animal species protection is a part of the plantation management, such as creation of safe habitats.
Restauración del terreno
Land restoration
The project repairs degraded land back into a healthy and productive land.
Beneficios sociales
Reducción de la pobreza
Poverty Relief
The project creates employment opportunities for poor local communities and reduces exposure and vulnerability to extreme weather events.
Concienciación medioambiental
Environmental awareness
The project cultivates environmental education for adults and/or children to raise environmental awareness.

Descripción del proyecto

Created in 1999, the project aims to contribute for a critical society formation, aware of its socio-economic and environmental context, capable of proposing a development model for the Amazon region that combines conservation and sustainability with quality life improvement for local populations. The project has become a regional reference and today has the largest capacity and knowledge of forest recovery in southwestern Amazon, having planted over 4 million trees.

We planted already 40,000 trees in Rio Preto Jacundá Extractive Reserve (2020/2021 planting season), 30,000 trees in smallholders in Amazon, Rondônia (2021/2022 planting season), and now 30,000 trees to reforest the rio Madeira watershed (2022/2023 planting season), to conserve biodiversity and serving as shelter for Amazonian fauna species, with the goal to fix carbon and reforest areas in accordance with the Brazilian Forest Code.

The selection of native species of economic interest (cocoa, cupuaçu, açaí, amazon nuts, andiroba) is intended to increase the family income of the traditional local population. Our project thus makes it possible to support the local population towards a sustainable production method.
