Eden Reforestation Projects

Eden Reforestation Projects, Madagascar

Our project aims to restore Madagascar’s mangroves and upland forests through large-scale reforestation efforts. This initiative addresses habitat loss, improves biodiversity, and helps combat climate change by restoring these critical ecosystems.

Preservation
The project owns areas protected from industrial activity to help preserve species and healthy ecosystems for the future and ensure its long-term sustainability.
Forestación
Afforestation
The project is planting trees to create a forest in an area that was previously not forested.
Gestión de recursos hídricos
Water Resources Management
Water supplies are a part of the project sustainable management, such as improving water quality and quantity and contributing to the reduction of water-related risks such as floods.
Beneficios medioambientales
Captura de CO2
CO2 Capture
The project holds ideal characteristics for carbon sequestration (CO2 offsets). This include a tropical climate zone, fast growing wood species, certain type of forest and project management.
Restauración del terreno
Land restoration
The project repairs degraded land back into a healthy and productive land.
Prevención de la deforestación
Avoid deforestation
The project sustainable forest management aids to stop deforestation and forest degradation.

Descripción del proyecto

Deforestation is a major issue in Madagascar because of its high concentration of endemic species and extreme rates of habitat loss. In response to the large-scale loss of mangroves and upland forests Eden Reforestation Projects initiated the Madagascar Reforestation Project. The program began in 2007 and since its inception Eden has successfully planted over 16 million mangrove and dry deciduous trees in this remote area of northwest Madagascar.
