Tabaquillo forests are truly magical places, they have unique energy, and they are sacred to us. They are also home and refuge for hundreds of native animal and plant species. Filled with springs and streams, they are oases of life, shade, humidity, and microclimate in the Sierras de Córdoba. They are vital for the maintenance of the mountainous ecosystems in which they are found: they protect the soil from erosion, contribute to the proper movement of water, and constitute a unique habitat for other species that are found under their shadow. Polylepis australis belongs to high-altitude forests, being native to this habitat and one of the few species that adapts to survive in this habitat. We started working with Polylepis australis because it is a pioneer at the succession process for the ecosystem restoration. What changes once we start working on reforestation and conservation of the land is that there is also a lot of pasture and other herbs growing that help to restore soil organic matter, avoid soil erosion and impact on water retention capacity on the mountains. We have some references where Polylepis australis is planted to stop erosion and have good results. Also the one with the most experience in terms of production from seed and there is a lot to research to work on other species and this high-altitud ecosistem restoration.
Polylepis australis is native to the Argentinian Andes, forming high-altitude woodlands. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, forests dominated by Polylepis belong to the most endangered tropical and subtropical mountain forest ecosystems of the world. They are restricted to the high mountains of South America where the use of fire to promote grass re-growth, domestic animal grazing, removal of timber and firewood, and soil erosion have reduced these forests to isolated patches.

Dear undefined,
We are excited to inform you that as of today, 03/06/2024, Tree-Nation will be shifting the majority of our operations to our Spanish company, Neovee Solutions. The Neovee entity is where Tree-Nation was originally founded and operated for thirteen years, and we return to it after a period working fully as a non-profit organization. From now on, Neovee Solutions will manage the Tree-Nation platform, while our non-profit arm will focus on the research and development of micro-conservation projects.
As a result of this transition, Neovee Solutions will become the new controller of your personal data, handling its storage and processing. This change in data management will not impact your experience with us. The company's team and activities remain unchanged, and your data will continue to be employed solely for the purposes disclosed at the time of registration.
