Restoration and Social Empowerment

Restoration and Social Empowerment, Mexico

This project supports under-resourced communities (ejidos) in restoring degraded forests. Hotter seasons, intensified rains, wildfires, and illegal logging have weakened forests, leading to thinning, soil erosion, and water depletion. The ejidos, as forest owners, lead tree planting and maintenance, with women often at the forefront, improving the resilience of the forests and preventing further human-caused damage.

The semi-arid climate of the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve is defined by low rainfall, extreme temperatures, and high evapotranspiration, limiting water availability

Felicitaciones a todo el equipo!

We are still working to completely control the fire that has damaged many acres of our land. Our role in helping out so far has been to provide supplies to the fire brigades who are all volunteer workers.

Que afectación hubo ?

Our trees are still growing in the nursery. Seeds for the trees are collected locally so that we plant only native, local trees.

April 2024

This is the village of Tepelmeme. Here we aim to plant 50,000 trees to help them in their effort to decrease the spread of the desert due to climate change.

We are having a typical severe dry season here in Tepelmeme. We are waiting for the rainy season, typically June through August, to plant the trees so they will grow and live long.
