-Konza Greens Community Tree planting Initiative is a community Based Organization with the mission to plant, grow and sustain local forest tree cover by engaging school learners and their communities in planting trees. Konza Greens is focusing on creating awareness on planting of trees from the grassroots, through action based interventions on afforestation and planting of trees with school learners and their communities.

Anyone who ever visited Konza Greens will concur with me that the farm is a true source of inspiration for both farmers and any other gree entrepreneur.
Once you are there, you will be thrilled by their model of promoting the restoration of vegetation in Lower Eastern Kenya. Of importance is how they integrate water harvesting with seedlings business concept that acts as a demonstration site for many other aspiring entrepreneurs.
The farm relies on quality seed materials sourced from reputable sources like the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) among others. If you are not sure the suitable trees for your locality, Konza Greens team is more than willing to help clients to select the most adaptable species.

Greening Communities in South Eastern Kenya
What a wonderful rare visit to Konza Grens Tree Nursery, what I believe is the only "Green Island" in Konza area.
We had discussed about making the visit a number of times before as I wanted to know the type of trees grown at the nursery and how to grow them.
Eventually we hit the road through Mombasa Road with it's heavy commercial vehicles. Less than two kilometres after Konza town, left the highway into a rough road with short shrubs on either side of the road.
Then in less than two kilometres, we made a final turn to the nursery. From a distance I started inquiring about that "beautiful Forest on my left". In two minutes, we docked and amazingly to the same place I was inquiring about.
So exciting on how beautiful the different tree species in the nursery have grown.
The most striking was the Australian Acacia which i was seeing for the first time. And the well informed staff.
Amazingly, as we walked around, two separate groups of farmers walked in to buy tree seedlings. I was really impressed
Some lessons from the visit were
1. Good nursery needs constant supply of water which is available via borehole
2. Targeting local Community to buy and plant tree seedlings is likely to promote conservation but also help nursery contribution to environment conservation
3. Local schools can be encouraged to make learning visits to the nursery. The variety of species will educate the students.
The Australia and local Akamba medicinal tree seedlings I bought and planted have really grown. But my village also later ordered for guava, cypress, evergreen and loquat seedlings which have done well with enhanced precipitation experienced in the Country.
Looking forward to the next visit to keep learning about tree species and enjoy the green and cool canopy at the farm

I have been following this project on Instagram. There are a lot of pictures that show all the processes and the care the planters dimostrate towards the trees. As I can see, it's an amazing project, I really suggest to follow it.

When I heard about Konza Greens tree nursery in mid 2018, I had to visit them for a fact finding mission.
The one and half hour drive was not disappointing but rather offered awesome lesson for tree lovers like me. When you approach the establishment, you get lost in the great work. There are many varieties of trees raging from fruit, commercial timber trees to herbal vegetation. In addition, the farm has an innovative water harvesting system that help them double as a tree nursery and a processor of quality drinking water under the brand KONZA. If you happen to drive past Machakos junction, don't hesitate to ask for Konza Drinking water.
Back to the tree nurseries, I learn that quality seed is the Pinnacle of any seedling performance, hence Konza Greens sources their planting materials from the certified seeds at Kenya Forestry.
I had an opportunity to talk to clients who had come to pick up their order and one of the best things they cited to have benefited from the Konza Greens is support on selection of right varieties for their environment to the overall plant husbandry.
I would recommend this trees nursery to any Serial Seedlings planter.
Building resilience to climate change in Schools and Communities around Konza
I have known the Konza Green initiative since inception. From the word go the Konza team has been very committed to producing high quality tree seedlings suitable for most ecological zones in Kenya.
As a rural development expert who works in many countries across Africa, Latin America and Asia, I have been impressed by the vision and conscious efforts of Konza green, towards planting suitable trees that help schools and communities in Kenya to withstand shocks and stresses brought about by Climate change.
Their trees are carefully selected through sourcing seeds of superior tree provenances. Konza collaborates with all major tree seed providers in both government and private sector, and this enables them to produce a variety of tree species very unique to their main tree nursery.

I am an Agronomist and a Horticulture specialist based in Israel, working with Green Arava Limited on Sweet Pepper production.
I thank Konza Greens Tree Nursary for the incredible work they are doing, I have worked with them for three months (May-July, 2018), in an effort to provide high quality fruit tree seedlings to their customers mainly from Makueni county and beyond.
This is a tree nursery that one can place an order with faith and get quality tree seedlings. The promoters of this nursery are dedicated to providing high quality trees to their customers as well as conserving the orphaned African Indigeneius Fruit trees.
