The ‘Big Scrub’ was once the largest area of subtropical rainforest in Australia, stretching over 75,000 hectares. After heavy clearing by European settlers in the 1840s, there are less than 1% of small, detached remnants left. Now recognized as a critically endangered ecological community by federal legislation, the ‘Lowland Subtropical Rainforest’ is in desperate need for conservation and reforestation, as it provides critical habitat for a large and diverse amount of flora and fauna (EPBC Act 1999).
ReForest Now aims to replant and reconnect parts of the Lowland Subtropical Rainforest through large scale plantings. Our key focus is high biodiversity and the recovery of threatened, native species. Through best-practice methods and two to three years of maintenance after planting, we ensure a natural and healthy regrowth of this the Lowland Subtropical Rainforest.
ReForest Now planted their first tree in 2019 and since then, has planted over 840,000 trees and regenerated over 87ha of rainforest in Australia alone (as of October 2024). The project is ongoing, with the next milestone being 1 million trees planted in Australia.
